Book Keepers is a self-directed design and illustration project developed in response to the rising trend of overconsumption in the literary community, particularly within the BookTok and collector culture spaces.
As someone who values both storytelling and sustainability, I was curious: Can we refresh how we engage with our books without buying more of them?
The result was a range of beautifully illustrated, reusable dust jackets that offer readers a low-waste, high-personality way to reimagine their shelves. Each jacket is printed on responsibly sourced paper and designed to preserve the life of the book while reducing unnecessary consumption.
The project was developed as part of a university brief challenging us to produce a physical product range, complete with a distinct brand identity and digital marketing strategy.
From concept to final production, I led every stage of the design process research, illustration, branding, packaging, photography, and content creation.
The branding is playful but thoughtful, designed to capture the joy of reading while highlighting environmental responsibility. The visual tone blends nostalgic print aesthetics with bold, character-driven illustrations, offering a whimsical yet purposeful design experience.
While the final product is consumer-facing, this project was also a chance to test my design values in action: creating work that is ethical, engaging, and expressive. It speaks to my interest in slow design, the value of reuse, and the ways we can integrate storytelling into everyday objects.
Book Keepers is more than a design concept it’s a conversation starter about mindful consumption and creative reuse.
