My five-week placement at Liveworm Design Studio offered an invaluable opportunity to transition from a university mindset into a professional studio environment. Working on real-world briefs with community, cultural, and health-based clients gave me insight into how design functions as both a creative and problem-solving practice.
Throughout the internship, I contributed to a diverse range of projects, including brand identities for the Pride Movement and Sport Your Pride, Griffith University’s Lunar New Year Card, and a health communication infographic for the OPTMED research project. These briefs required me to adapt my design approach across contexts shifting from expressive, identity-driven branding to culturally sensitive symbolism and clear, accessible information design.
The placement highlighted the importance of iteration, feedback, and collaboration in professional practice. I learned to refine ideas critically, balancing creativity with clarity, and to approach design as a service shaped by audience needs rather than personal expression alone. Presenting work to clients, responding to critique, and packaging deliverables for handover taught me about professionalism, attention to detail, and the realities of studio workflows.
This experience reinforced key professional skills, including time management, communication, and technical accuracy, while also deepening my understanding of design as a socially responsive discipline. Ultimately, my internship at Liveworm gave me confidence in my ability to contribute meaningfully to collaborative studio environments and confirmed my ambition to pursue a career in creative practice that balances innovation with purpose.
